Emergency entry at 3am or a planned master-key rollout across 40 sites, it's the same standard and the same fixed-price promise.
Emergency lockouts and entry
Locked out of your shop, office or unit, or a key snapped in the lock? Non-destructive entry wherever the lock allows. If the lock has failed, it’s replaced on the same visit.
Lock changes and upgrades
A new tenancy, a leaver or missing keys. A lock change takes every old key out of use the same day. Insurance-approved BS 3621 and TS 007 3-star.
Shopfront & aluminium doors
Narrow-stile hook bolts, deadlatches, cylinders and handles replaced, and seized locks opened.
Roller shutter locks
Pin, bullet and ground locks opened, repaired and replaced on shopfronts, kiosks, garages and loading bays.
Master keys & restricted keys
One key per person that opens only their doors; copies can only be cut with your authorisation.
Access control, door entry & CCTV
Keypads, fobs, cards and intercoms. Add or remove a person in seconds, with a record of who opened which door.
Fire exit & panic hardware
Push bars and push pads to BS EN 1125 and BS EN 179, fitted so the exit opens first time and still locks from outside.
Safes opened, installed & serviced
Lost key or combination, or a failed safe lock. Opened, repaired, or a new safe installed and bolted down.
Planned maintenance & multi-site
Emergency cover and planned programmes for retailers, FM companies, councils and housing providers.
Which lock goes on which door.
Insurers and fire risk assessors name standards, not brands. This is what's normally fitted to each type of commercial door in the UK.
| Door or opening | Usually fitted | Standard | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Timber final exit door | Five-lever mortice deadlock or sashlock | BS 3621 | The standard most often named in UK insurance policies for timber doors. |
| uPVC or composite door | Multipoint lock with anti-snap euro cylinder | TS 007 3★ | Protects the cylinder against snapping, drilling and picking. |
| Aluminium shopfront door | Narrow-stile hook bolt deadlock with cylinder | BS EN 1303 | A hook bolt stops the door being levered away from the frame. |
| Fire exit used by the public | Panic bar: push bar or touch bar | BS EN 1125 | Opens with one push by someone who has never seen the door. |
| Fire exit, trained staff only | Push pad or lever emergency exit device | BS EN 179 | For exits where users know the building. |
| Internal fire door | Fire-rated lock or latch with test evidence | BS EN 12209 | Untested hardware can compromise the door’s fire rating. |
| Flat entrance or HMO door | Lock with an inside thumbturn | BS 8621 | Anyone inside can get out without a key. |

Questions, answered
Straight answers on cost, response and who turns up. If yours is not here, call and ask a locksmith.
What does a commercial locksmith do?
A commercial locksmith installs, repairs, opens and upgrades the locks and door hardware on business premises: emergency entry, lock changes, master key systems, access control, fire exit hardware, roller shutter locks and safes. It differs from domestic work because commercial doors carry insurance, fire safety and staff access requirements.
How much does a commercial locksmith cost?
LockFit quotes a fixed price before work starts and never charges a call-out fee. The price depends on the door, the lock, the parts and the time of day, and it does not change if the job takes longer than expected.
Can you work outside our trading hours?
Yes. Planned lock changes, access control installs and shutter lock repairs can be booked before opening, after close or at weekends.
What locks does my business insurance require?
Most UK commercial policies set minimum security for final exit doors: commonly a five-lever mortice deadlock to BS 3621 on timber doors, and a multipoint lock with a TS 007 3-star cylinder on uPVC and composite doors. Requirements vary, so check your schedule. A free LockFit security check compares your doors against it.
Should I change the locks when an employee leaves?
If they held keys and you can’t be sure every copy came back, yes. Replacing cylinders is fast and takes every old key out of use. If it happens often, restricted keys or access control remove the problem altogether.
Do fire exit doors need a panic bar or a push pad?
It depends who uses the door. Public exits should have a panic bar to BS EN 1125. Staff-only exits can use a push pad or lever to BS EN 179. Your fire risk assessment decides which applies.
Do you cover multiple sites or national contracts?
Yes. Retailers, facilities management companies, councils, police authorities and utility companies use LockFit, with one point of contact and a local locksmith for each site.
