Many manufacturers make uPVC door locks, but they all work on the same principle. The multipoint lock isn’t unique to uPVC: it is also fitted to timber composite doors. When it fails in the locked position, it causes bigger problems, but there are usually warning signs first.
- The handle is hard to operate, or needs extra pressure at the end of the lift.
- The lock is stiff, or makes a clicking sound.
- The handle is wobbly, loose, or spins completely.
Sometimes it is simple: the door alignment has been knocked. Sometimes a moving part inside the mechanism has seized or broken, or the fault is in the euro cylinder. Either way, we diagnose it on the visit.
How a multipoint lock works
Multipoint locks work the same way whatever the number or type of locking points: rollers, hooks, bolts or a mix. On most, lifting the handle throws the locking points, and turning the key in the cylinder then locks the whole mechanism in place.

My uPVC door won’t lock. What’s wrong?
Usually alignment (the door has dropped, so the hooks miss the keeps) or a worn gearbox in the mechanism. Alignment is often an adjustment; a failed gearbox is replaced on the visit.
Can you get me in if the mechanism has failed locked?
Yes. This is one of our most common call-outs. We open the door, replace the mechanism and leave it locking properly.
